When my kids go to a baseball game, nobody is safe and fun is required. Kauffman is a perfect place for a family to enjoy a night out.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m in fully Ricky Bobby “I don’t know what to do with my hands” mode in the six weeks following the Super Bowl. But here in Crown Town — even without a dedicated NBA team for us all to get behind — there are plenty of ways to fight off the Super Bowl hangover.

Hair of the dog that bit you? Sure thing, bartender.

First, of course, the Royals are three weeks away from Opening Day, which means that cold beers and short sleeves at Kauffman are closer than we think. With the first roster cuts already on the books, the Kings Of Kauffman blog is breaking down what the roster looks like at this moment.

I think we can all agree that last year’s postseason results only got us more amped for the possibilities in 2025.

KC Current NWSL
After last year’s semifinals appearance, the current are intent on taking the leap into elite status.

Of course, KC is also Soccer City USA, which means that the springtime thaw also coincides with (not one but) two(!) professional futbol teams hitting the pitch for another season.

At CPKC Stadium, our Kansas City Current kicks off it’s 2025 campaign March 15 with a match against the Portland Thorns. With one of the sports most exciting players in Temwa Chawinga, the Current looks to build on a 2024 campaign that saw them play into the league semifinals.

If you’re love sports documentaries, and don’t want to wait for the season to kick off, KCUR has written a great piece about a trailblazing docu-series which uses Chawinga and others to explore the current generation of women’s soccer superstars.

Meanwhile, Sporting KC has had a difficult beginning to its 2025 season, as the Kansas City Soccer Journal writes in this piece. Even so, with the tradition of the franchise so strong, and Children’s Mercy Park such a great place to catch a match, there’s no reason not to head to Legends, grab a scarf, and enjoy a night of soccer.

The team has a pair of home matches in mid-March and it’s a perfect Spring Break family outing. My kids love it. Heck, I might see you there.
