We all went wild when Kansas City Royals slugger Salvador Perez pulled his car to the side of the road and joined the Wiffle Ball game of those KCK kiddos in August.

Let’s be honest, the whole sports world did, too. What a truly awesome story by a dude that we have all grown to love during his career — genuinely typifies the Midwestern kindness that we expect out of our Kansas City stars.

(Also, shout out to Salvy for copping to his strikeout. That might be my favorite part of the whole story.)

Truth is, we live in an incredibly special sports market, for a number of reasons that don’t rhyme with Flooper Powl and Schmynasty. One of the things that might be easy to take for granted is just how ingrained these superstars are with the communities they represent.

Trust me: The are kids across the country who never see their professional athletes even inside their city limits, except for on game days. The men and women of our teams truly live here; this is their home as much as it is ours.

So, Crown Towners, I want to know: Which member of the KC pro teams would you want rolling up on your kids’ pickup game?

Shout ’em out. Speak it into existence. And then get outside and make it happen, already!

One response to “Salvador Perez in your backyard for Wiffle Ball. Which Kansas City athlete is next?”

  1. […] Crap, the team needs to be ready. And I hope there’s some grit behind the Midwest nice. […]
